In January I had the pleasure of attending the Paradox Interactive Convention 2010, giving me the opportunity to meet people from both Paradox Interactive itself and some of the developers who work with them to produce a great range of titles. The atmosphere was warm, friendly and full of excitement and one thing that was supplied in abundance was enthusiasm: if you’ve ever thought that it’s a myth that there are lucky people out there who love their jobs, I can tell you it isn’t. The range of upcoming titles from Paradox Interactive is certainly broad – ranging from war strategy to ship simulation – and also sees them move into console gaming, with upcoming title Lead and Gold.
If you’re not familiar with Paradox Interactive, they’ve been publishing PC-based strategy games since 1999. With a strong presence in both the US and Europe, Paradox Interactive has been responsible for some incredibly well known games, including the Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron franchises and recently has published several notable titles including Majesty 2, the Elven Legacy series and Mount & Blade. You can find them online at www.paradoxplaza.com and follow them on Twitter (@pdxinteractive).
Of the titles on show, my top pick was undoubtedly Magicka. However, many titles showed great promise, including Lionheart: Kings' Crusade and Victoria 2. It seems a fair prediction to say that 2010 will be an excellent year for Paradox Interactive and its fans, both old and new.
